Preparing for a Road Trip
Even though summer time is over, there are still some lovely places to take a short road trip. On the east coast there are many rural roads where you can witness the leaves turning colors and beginning to fall off the trees. On the west coast there is still some time to take one last trip to the beach. But before you take off, there are a few essential items you need to pack.
The first thing you want to be sure not to forget is a map. You won’t need a world map, but a good road map of the areas you will be visiting is essential. Even if you have been there before, it is better to be safe than sorry. Keeping a survival kit in your car is also very important, especially if you are going to be driving through undeveloped areas. Your survival kit should include a first aid kit in case of injury, a flashlight, duct tape for fixing things, a rain coat, a blanket for keeping warm, protein or granola bars, reflective tape or triangles for signaling for help, matches or a lighter for starting a fire, and a compass. You should also put a couple of gallons of water in your car as well so you don’t get dehydrated if you do become stranded.
If you have an old cell phone lying around you can charge it and bring it along because out-of-service phones will still call 911. If your car needs repaired it is also a good idea to have jumper cables, fuses, and all of the essential items for repairing a flat tire. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that you have fun, safe road trip. You can even stop and pick up a decorative map gift on your way home.
