History of Broadway New York The Great White Way
What do we know about Broadway? Well, we know its in New York and all the major plays are performed here. We know its every playwright’s greatest desire to write a play that will be performed on Broadway and every actor’s desire to star in that hit play. What else is there? Well, this wide avenue, thus its name, is the oldest thoroughfare dating back to the first New Amsterdam settlement and runs north and south through the entire length of Manhattan and then extends on into the Bronx. And a portion of this old thoroughfare is where the American theatre industry lives and breathes. Did you know Broadway was originally just a trail in the heavy brush, chiseled away by Native American Indians? Hard to picture isn’t it? When the Dutch started arriving, this trail soon became a major road through the area and over the centuries this trail became the Broadway we know today. Just like everything, it had to start somewhere.
If you are here visiting, what do you hope to get? Well, my guess is theatre tickets Broadway New York. What a thrill. What an experience. Many hotels offer guest incentive packages that include tickets to a Broadway play. How exciting to see The Lion King, Hamlet, the Phantom of the Opera, or White Christmas. Or maybe you have already been to one of the theatres and seen one of the timeless classics. You haven’t forgotten that performance I’m sure.
Even just taking a walk down Broadway is an exciting adventure. Watching all the people, seeing the marquees and the names of the famous actors performing there. Can you ever forget the enticing aroma of the restaurants and little sidewalk venders? There is an excitement and electricity that fills the air. Even the noise adds to this famous streets very being. Yes, you’ve come a long way, Broadway.
