Night Club Scene in Austin
Jeanine was really looking forward to visiting her best friend Claudia in Austin, Texas last summer. The two friends had not seen each other since the summer after their college graduation when Claudia moved to Austin with her boyfriend. Claudia was worried about the move at the time, not because it was Austin that that she was moving to but because she had to admit she was only moving there to be with her boyfriend Mike. He was bass player in a blues band and they received a job offer at a local club to play there regularly. Mike didn’t feel he could pass this up and Claudia agreed to move with him. She had a degree in library sciences and had not yet found a job so she justified the move by saying she hadn’t really gotten started on her career and Austin seemed like as good a place as any to do it.
Well, she was partially correct in her decision. Within a month she had gained employment with the Austin Public Library and she really enjoyed her work. She also loved the city itself and was happy for Mike because it had an incredible music scene and she felt there was plenty of opportunity for him. Unfortunately, that turned out to be true but not regarding music. Within two months of living in Austin Mike found someone else whom he claimed he fell in love with.
So, while Claudia had landed a great job and really liked the city she also landed a quick broken heart. This was particularly difficult to deal with because everywhere she went live band seemed to be playing and reminded her of Mike. It was no conciliation that his band broke up and Mike couldn’t find work as a musician so he was bartending at one of the clubs. Claudia simply tried to avoid that club and every other one to avoid running into him and his new girlfriend. She was also extremely happy that her friend was coming to visit and poured out the whole story immediately upon meeting Jeanine in her room at one of the Austin luxury hotels. Jeanine insisted they search the club scene so she could get a look at Mike’s new girlfriend and report back to Claudia. They toured Paradox, the Elephant Room and Antone’s Nightclub on the first night but found no sign of Mike. Jeanine reasoned that they would cover the entire town before she left but they would have to hit more places each night to do so.
